Birdfeeders on UWSP campus and Schmeekle Reserve

To provide opportunities for UWSP BIOL 377 (Ornithology) students to observe local birdlife in different habitats, I am placing four bird feeding stations around the UWSP campus and nearby Schmeekle Reserve. These stations are for observation only (no experimentation), and provide a valuable resource for students to gain insight into wild bird appearance and behavior.

For questions or comments, please email me!

CBB STATION

The first feeding station on the UWSP campus is up and running! The CBB Feeding Station features black oil sunflower seeds and thistle seeds. It is around the northwest corner of the CBB, tucked in a trio of conifers and visible from both outdoors and inside the CBB itself (from the cafe / lecture hall area windows).

Species observed so far: house finch, black-capped chickadee, American goldfinch; nearby, white-winged crossbill

These feeding stations are non-invasive and approved for observational use by the UWSP Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (protocol 2025-EX02) as well as Schmeekle Reserve (Education and Research Use Permit 290125S201). No animals are harmed.
